Rhéa Marine is, above all, the story of one man, Bertrand Danglade. Berced in boats, and with a growing passion, Bertrand went to Scotland, namely the banks of the Clyde, the birthplace of so many legendary sailing ships, to acquire a solid foundation in boat building. Here he learnt about aesthetics and refinement of boats, understood about hull proportions and shapes, and acquired expert knowledge in wood.
He has spent his entire working life in this field. So it was a natural choice to set up the Île de Ré Shipyard in the 1970s selling, outfitting, restoring and maintaining all kinds of boats, especially the little “Marennes” trawlers which embody the charm of the ports along the French Atlantic coast.
The idea to create the Rhea Marine shipyard owes thanks to several customers and friends in the early 1990s, who asked Bertrand to “…build us a boat!”
In 1996, Bertrand gladly granted their request and Rhéa Marine came into being.
We have three ranges: Timonier, Open and Trawler models.
The yard is located in La Rochelle, on the Atlantic coast. And we are happy to welcome you in our workshops where you can experience firsthand our expertise and craftsmanship.
